This is American Thanksgiving Weekend in the United States, a day filled with NFL football.
The traditional afternoon games are at Ford Field in Detroit, then later at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, and finally followed by the Jets hosting New England tonight in the AFC East.
Sure, I’ll watch the games. I’ve got nothing else on the go.
But the focus for me is on Sunday’s game; the Grey Cup Championship in Toronto between the Argos and the Calgary Stampeders.
The Argos, with home field advantage, should be listed as the favorite, but they haven’t won the Cup on home field since 1952 when they defeated Edmonton at Varsity Stadium.
The last time the Argos were in the Championship Game on home turf was 1982 at Exhibition Stadium when they were doubled 32-16 by the Eskimos.
So following the trend we know this; every 30 years, the Argos play for the Championship in a different venue in the city; Varsity Stadium, Exhibition Stadium and now the Rogers Centre, usually against an Alberta team, this time around the Calgary Stampeders.
Home field advantage for the Argos, but I say the Stampeders win the contest because in the CFL, West is best.
American or Canadian, enjoy the next 4 days of football, highlighted by the 100th Grey Cup Sunday in Toronto
I’m Fred Wallace
