Days ago I got a tip regarding some Owen Sound lacrosse players who were selected in the Canadian Lacrosse League draft.
The what ?
So I started searching and came across the CLax site and nearly fell over when I saw the name, Paul St John, as the League Commissioner.
I hadn’t heard of Paul since he was the head of the Ajax-Pickering Rock, taking them to within one goal of winning the 2007 Presidents Cup Canadian Championship held in Owen Sound at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre.
I remembered the fierce rivalry between the Woodsmen and the Rock that year and how Paul seemingly was up front and in the middle of every scenario.
From a broadcast standpoint, his quotes and sound bites were golden, the very best comments I’ve ever consistently heard from anyone I’ve interviewed through the years.
You might not have agreed with the remarks, you might not have liked them, but there was no question Paul St John said what he meant, and meant what he said. He was passionate about his team and the sport.
Now, Paul St John has brought that passion to CLax as Commissioner.
He knows very well that the league and sport faces ongoing challenges to make their mark in Ontario during the Winter and Spring,
But similar to his days with Ajax-Pickering, Paul St John is dealing with any issue at top speed.
