A movement is afoot to celebrate 25 years of Ontario Hockey League action in Owen Sound.
Next season will mark a quarter century of OHL play at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre and the Attack have formulated some early concepts to mark the occasion.
Among the ideas kicked around is selecting a 25th anniversary All Star team, taking into consideration both the Platers era and the current club, the Attack.
With pen in hand, I decided to save everyone time and effort and compiled my list of the All Time All Stars; 1989 to present.
………………it was tougher than I thought. A lot tougher.
For example, my final decision for all time center was Joey Hishon, by a skate blade over Brad Richardson.
They were both the best of their era with the Attack, the deciding factor was Hishon being on the Robertson Cup team.
Right wing was an issue, although in the end I went with the all time points leader Bobby Ryan just ahead of Kirk Maltby and, I admit, I always had a soft spot for Jason MacDonald.
Less debatable was Andrew Brunette as my all time Owen Sound left winger and the defenders I chose were Scott Walker and Andrej Sekera.
As for the all time goaltender…….I penciled in Curtis Sanford. Then scratched his name out and went with Jamie Storr. Then I felt Jordan Binnington’s career mark for wins made him the choice. Then I went right back to Sanford.
Who did you choose ? This will be one of many neat aspects of the upcoming 25th year of OHL Hockey in Owen Sound.
I’m Fred Wallace
