It’s Friday.
As we mentioned yesterday, there’s an Ontario Hockey League game tonight in Owen Sound, the Attack hosting the Ottawa 67’s.
Then tomorrow night, the Attack conclude a 5 game home stand when they host Oshawa.
At one of those contests, I’m not sure which one, Owen Sound skier Larisa Yurkiw will drop the puck.
Yurkiw is almost a month away from the start of the World Cup Ski season which commences at Lake Louise, Alberta.
A year ago, based on recovery from injury, she missed the Lake Louise races, but now is heading towards that competition at full speed.
Part of that enthusiasm is fueled by an ambitious fundraising campaign she’s involved with, one that’s designed to defray the significant cost to an athlete to represent Canada in international sports.
By her calculation, she’s approaching the midway point of her goal and hopes to get a further boost this weekend by meeting and greeting people in her home city.
Meanwhile, over in Collingwood this weekend, the bi-annual Sports Hall of Fame Induction Night is set for Branch 63 of the Royal Canadian Legion on Saturday.
Four athletes, a builder and two highly successful teams will be among those inducted in what’s believed will be the biggest attendance turnout in the history of the Collingwood hall.
Have a good weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
