One of the forgotten moments in the Owen Sound Attack’s Championship season of 2010-11 was that they lost their opening game that season at Guelph.
One of the factors for the defeat that night at Guelph was the Owen Sound’s lineup was bereft of first rounders.
On opening night in 2010, Michael D’Orazio was long gone, playing as an overage for the London Knights
Joey Hishon was absent too, nursing a sore hand if memory serves.
Steven Shipley had departed just days before in a deal with Niagara.
And Curtis Crombeen was dealing with a long term leg injury.
Only Jarrod Maidens, making his OHL debut that night at Guelph, was a first round selection in the Attack lineup for the opener.
Some two years later, the picture is somewhat similar in Owen Sound.
The Attack who lead the Western Conference today likely won’t have a first rounder of their own going into the conclusion of a 5 game home stand
Shipley remains at St Catharines, Crombeen plays for Plymouth, Maidens continues a lengthy recovery from concussion, Zach Nastasiuk’s arm was in a sling at last check and I’m pretty sure I saw Jake Middleton on crutches this week.
Still, the Owen Sound Attack are first in the Conference heading to home games tomorrow against Ottawa and Saturday against Oshawa
