I was encouraged to see the results of the Owen Sound NorthStars Junior B Lacrosse club’s annual General Meeting.
The NorthStars were in need of new blood at the executive level, not because the people in place were incapable, far from it. Simply put, the existing core of the executive had been in position for a lengthy term, far exceeding the length of time their sons had been in the program, and naturally, they desired the opportunity to depart.
It’s a natural process that certainly doesn’t apply to just the NorthStars, many organizations, sporting or otherwise go through it.
The most noteworthy shuffle in the executive was the naming of coach Keith Peer as the team’s General Manager.
Peer, who was the goalkeeper the last time Owen Sound won the Founders Cup in 1993, is well acquainted with the lacrosse scene and will be carrying the dual portfolio of coach and General Manager.
Brad Bowers, who’s been in the GM chair for the last decade remains as an assistant, but will be scaling back his involvement.
For Bowers, by my count, this will be the 4th time he’s attempted to depart, and if the new executive structure is successful, and I think it will be, then he’ll be able to depart the Junior B Lacrosse program fully.
