For high school athletes, this is the last stretch for their sporting season with OFSAA competitions in a variety of sports.
For the Walkerton District Raiders Soccer team, the OFSAA ” A ” Championships at Windsor carries a deeper meaning, as it will mark the Raiders last function before they officially shift and become the Riverhawks evermore.
The Raiders are ranked # 15 in a field of 20 schools at the Ontario Championship which begins Thursday in Windsor.
Coaches Kevin Matheson and Dave West have a roster of 20 plus players representing the school against a wide cross section of the province in their pool play.
On Thursday at noon, Walkerton will open against ES Lajeunesse of Windsor and then play again at 3 pm against Toronto’s St. Patrick Secondary School
On Day 2, Walkerton will face the St. Thomas Aquinas from Kenora and then wrap their Pool competition with a game against Glengarry of Alexandria.
How’s that for provincial geography; Windsor-Toronto-Kenora & Ottawa region ?
If the Raiders are successful in their province wide pool competition, they’ll advance to the quarterfinals late Friday afternoon and then hopefully move well beyond.
This is the last Walkerton District Raiders sporting function, and potentially it could be their best ever.
I’m Fred Wallace
