When the Stanley Cup opened last week, I got the genius idea to call Owen Sound native Curtis Sanford of the Columbus Blue Jackets, thinking he could give me a terrific insight into the matchup and the matchup within the matchups.
When we got talking about the goaltending matchup, Martin Brodeur against Jonathan Quick, Sanford sounded like a 9 year old fan.
Brodeur’s accomplishments in the sport for New Jersey are second to none in Sanford’s opinion, calling him likely the greatest to ever play goal in the NHL.
As for Quick, Sanford relates that the Kings keeper is second only to Henrik Lundquist of the Rangers in terms of contemporary goalies.
My next genius question was to ask Curtis what his status with the Columbus Blue Jackets was.

Truthfully, I should have asked the question in reverse; what are your plans for the Columbus Blue Jackets ?
Apparently, Curtis Sanford has agreed to a contract with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl and will play goal in the Kontinental Hockey League next season.
