I’ve always been very open about one thing; I HATE rap music.
I’ve seldom been interested in a bunch of talentless, mostly illiterate, thugs and wannabes who somehow have created an amazing lucrative industry by putting an urban beat to a bunch of mindless words that rhyme.
So today, I’d like to talk about…rap music, or at least a rap song.
Mike Copeman, who claims to be the worst player to ever play shinny in Grey-Bruce, makes his living as an actor-singer-producer & director.
So, he composed a rap song called ” Tool Belt “, a tribute to the everyday blue collar worker.
Not only did he compose the song, he shot a corresponding music video using the Kinplex in Flesherton and the Moggie Sawmill among his shoot locations.
His hockey companions were somewhat sceptical about the plan until Copeman arrived with a mobile unit and a large contingent of film professionals to shoot the video that stars Barry Neil, the father of NHL’er Chris Neil of the Ottawa Senators.
” Tool Belt ” uses small town images, but there are pretty big plans for the song and video.
The debut will be June 30th at a gala fundraiser at the Markdale Golf Club with an ambitious desire to get screen time at the Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance and potentially on Bravo TV with their movie shorts segment.
I’ll always hate rap music, always, but ” Tool Belt ” is an intriguing project and with its Flesherton connection, I probably can be persuaded to give it a look and a listen.
I’m Fred Wallace
