After a winter of massive discontent, the harness racing season opens tomorrow at Hanover Raceway.
While Opening Day at Hanover is always a day to eagerly anticipate, the anticipation this year is mixed with high anxiety thanks to a Government that believes the province extends from Lakeshore Boulevard to Steeles Avenue.
Horse-people and rural Ontario at large are getting bushwhacked at every turn by one cutback after another, either real or proposed by the Liberal deep thinkers in charge of governing us.

Still, Hanover Raceway remains as a great show, week after week, and as the saying goes, ‘ the show must go on. ‘
Opening Day tomorrow kicks off with the airing of the Kentucky Derby with an option for the regular Saturday night buffet in the lounge.
The local race program has a 7:15 pm start and you can imagine that everyone connected to Hanover’s first 11 races, and every card that follows this year, will be ever mindful of what makes the sport such an enjoyable experience.
And to that end, the track, the local horse industry, the town of Hanover & the agricultural heartland that makes up the surrounding townships and counties needs to be at their very best to make sure harness racing remains at Hanover going forward and not placed on a Provincial Government chopping block
