The Ontario Hockey League Championship series for the Robertson Cup begins tonight at the John Labatt Centre in London as Knights host the Niagara IceDogs in the best of 7 final.
I’ll be honest, while this is a great matchup, I truly enjoyed last year’s OHL Final much better.
Having said that, there’s no denying that this series is a tremendous matchup with very little to choose between the two teams.
In goal, what’s the difference between Mark Visentin of Niagara and London’s Michael Houser ?
On defence, London has 3 players who played for their respective nations at the World Junior Championship this year; Niagara had 2 defenders on Team Canada.
And up front, both teams are deep, very deep. Both teams can roll 4 lines and no matter which line you attempt to shutdown, the other units are equally capable of scoring.
My pick in the final……London.
I base that selection on home ice advantage, the Knights facing tougher competition on a regular basis in the West and long term league history.
The Western Conference representative has won the OHL Championship Series 9 of the last 10 years.
If Niagara, who I believe is a tremendous team, doesn’t win the final this year with that roster, then the East may never ever win it.
I’m Fred Wallace
