Only days after winning the OFSAA ” A-AA ” Boys Hockey Championship at Peterborough, the Kincardine District Knights are shooting for a bigger prize.
The Knights who won the OFSAA Championship Saturday night over Brennan High School had barely returned home when coach Doug Kennedy and I got talking and in the course of the discussion, he confirmed Kincardine District is submitting a bid to host the OFSAA ” A-AA ” Boys Hockey Championship in 2015.
Kennedy relates the bid process has been ongoing, long before the Knights won the Championship tournament, but he admits the Ontario title and the potential of hosting this event one day has created a solid buzz in the town and community.
The next phase is paperwork, meeting with CWOSSA officials, getting their endorsement and then officially submitting the bid to OFSAA in the Fall.
As far as Kennedy knows, there is one other existing bid, that belonging to Whitby.
The Whitby submission is a request to host both the Boys & the Girls Tournament in 2015.
By precedent, Kennedy understands in a case like the one above, OFSAA in the past has split the tournaments, awarding the Girls Tourney to one community and the Boys to another.
Maybe that will happen here. Maybe not.
The point is Kennedy believes Kincardine District, the Knights and the region with 4 rinks within 20 to 30 minutes of each other, would be a fabulous host site for the OFSAA Hockey Championship
