Sometimes you get buried in the local sports scene- in a good way.
Take Wednesday’s activities and the corresponding stories that popped up yesterday and tell me what was the biggest story.
Was it Jay Gilbert’s third overtime goal of the season as the Attack beat Sarnia 4-3 ?
The Attack and Sarnia are tied for 4th in the OHL Western Conference and both teams have games tonight.
Was the big story the two amazing comebacks in the Junior C Playoffs; Wingham scoring 5 times in the 3rd period to stay alive against Walkerton, or Penetang erasing a 3-0 deficit to overcome Alliston in overtime ?
There’s Junior C Playoff action tonight in Walkerton, Mitchell and at Penetanguishene.
The biggest story could have been in Waterford where the Walkerton Senior Raiders won the CWOSSA ” A ” Boys Basketball title, becoming the first Bluewater school in 30 years to win that title. The Raiders are off to OFSAA at St Catharines next month
And perhaps it was none of the above, but rather the 5 swimmers from St Mary’s High School who qualified for the OFSAA Swim Meet and establised a CWOSSA relay record at Guelph.
Jake See, Justin Salerne, Ethan Huff and the Hatcher Brothers, Austin & Chris, will compete at OFSAA in ealy March at Milton.
So was it the Attack, the Ironmen, the Kings, the basketball Raiders or the Mustangs swim team that deserved top billing in local sports yesterday ?
No matter which story you chose, they’re all pretty good.
I’m Fred Wallace
