We spent a little time last week with a focus on the Owen Sound Aquatic Club, in particular, spotlighting 18 year old Chris Hatcher who was one of 2 Owen Sound swimmers competing at the Eastern Canadian Championships at Gatineau, Quebec.
The meet, categorized as the fastest Eastern Canadians ever didn’t yield the results Hatcher was reaching for, as his stated goal was a top 8 in his five competitions.
Hatcher’s best performance was a top 25 in the 50 metre backstroke and while there’s obvious disappointment in not advancing to the Olympic Trials, his coaches expect the results will serve as greater motivation going forward, both for the remainder of this season and in the years ahead.
Owen Sound’s best mark at the Eastern Canadians was turned in by 16 year old Andrew Beaton who lowered his own club record in the 50 metre butterfly
Beaton was 17th in the standings but posted a new Owen Sound record time of 26.6 seconds, lowering his own standard by a significant margin.
There was one other swim note that popped up over the weekend from the annual meet that Aquatic Club hosts at Guelph.
16 year old Ethan Huff, after knocking on the door for quite some time, managed to post the qualifying time required in the 200 metre breaststroke that will allow him to advance to the upcoming Provincial Championship at Nepean.
