Super Bowl 46 at Indianapolis was won by the New York Giants coming from behind to beat the New England Patriots 21-17 on a last minute TD.
A tight game with a lot of good to very good storylines that evolved and emerged and are still being talked about today.
As suggested last week in this space, the game came closer to living up to the pre-game hype than many others.
But still, bit by bit, the football game and possibly sports in general is sharing the stage and periodically losing the spotlight to society as we know it or perceive it.
Through the years, the marketing world has crept in, then muscled its way in, and now threatens to take over the Super Bowl and through the trickle effect maybe take over pro sports for good.
For example, what did you talk about more yesterday; Eli Manning, the Super Bowl MVP or Emperor Elton John ?
I like Madonna, always have. But if I want to see her perform. I’d rather buy tickets to the Air Canada Centre than put the championship football game on hold for a half hour.
And M-I-A. ( Or is is Maya ? ) Very clever to make that gesture and form that word, ensuring that your performance would be talked about & recalled long after your epic music career has faded away.
I enjoyed the Super Bowl this year. The football game that is. The sideshows, I’m much less interested in.
