It’s early in the New Year and there’s a lot on the go.
The Owen Sound Attack are at St Catharines tonight in the Ontario Hockey League to face the IceDogs and their bolstered lineup with their multiple World Junior returnees.
The OHL Trade deadline is 4 days away.
Attack General Manager Dale DeGray has no magic wand, but if he did, he’d make three transactions, none of which on the surface would be considered blockbusters, all of which below the surface are designed to maintain the competitive level now and upgrade it going forward.
So, the Attack may make a hat trick of deals or they may do nothing. We’ll see.
What we are certain of is a busy weekend for curling at the Zone, Regional and Provincial level.
Most significantly is the Region 3 Men’s Tankard that begins tomorrow at the Meaford Curling Club.
Eight rinks including Joey Rettinger of Tara and Blue Water’s Al Hutchinson are in the field of competitors looking to earn a berth at the Ontario Championships in Stratford next month
Elsewhere, there’s a Zone 11 event at Grey Granite and the Kendall Haymes rink from Collingwood continues play the Pepsi Ontario Junior Girls Championship
Have a great weekend.
I’m Fred Wallace
