I’m not sure exactly when it happened, or how it happened, but with each passing year, my degree of interest in the National Football League declines.
It might be there’s too many things on the go around here on Sundays- the NFL’s primary date
After 8 weeks, I’ve had just 2 free Sundays- yesterday for example was spent in Kingston and the NFL was barely a thought during the day.
I did think about that NFL game last week in Toronto between the Buffalo Bills and the Washington Redskins at the Rogers Centre.
The Bills blanked the Skins 23-0 to improve to 5 & 2 on the year, but I wondered who got the short end of that stick.
Would it be the Buffalo fan, who after years of watching their team stumble aimlessly, now have something to cheer for but if they want to watch it live, they’ve got to cross a border and make a 90 minute trip into the downtown of another city ?
Or would the biggest losers be the city of Toronto, treated as little more than a sideshow tent in a huge NFL circus for one lonely weekend a year ?
Toronto second fiddle ? You don’t hear that often.
I guess when it all gets examined, the big winners are the Bills who pocket millions from the Toronto junket and the biggest losers, at least this year, were the Washington Redskins with the Bills fans & the GTA a very tight second
I’m Fred Wallace
