It’s fascinating to see the various sporting and athletic quests people in our region pursue.
Sure, there are the traditional avenues to follow in sports, but this week, a number of diverse paths have been uncovered.
I spoke with Larisa Yurkiw yesterday as she prepares to return to competitive skiing next month on the NorAm circuit.
She obviously wants back to where she once was before injury-on the World Cup circuit, and if she gets there, or more likely when she gets there, it seems to me the number of National Ski team members from Owen Sound area will always be minimal.
How many Adventure Racers do we have ? Especially capable of competing at the World Championship level in Australia as Jack van Dorp of Wiarton is this week- trekking, cycling and kayaking over a 700 kilometre course.
And onto the sports radar too this week popped Alyssa Kirk, an 18 year old who attends OSCVI and competes essentially in bodybuilding shows.
Kirk was second last week at a competition in the Ottawa region and she’s off again this weekend hoping to attain her pro card in the discipline.
Most days hockey, football, baseball and basketball- if they’re not on strike- garner the attention of the sports media, but this week, curiously, some remote sporting pursuits from our region have landed centre stage.
