It was quite a weekend for the Owen Sound Attack, and I’m not really talking about the on-ice results.
Sure, the 5 points out of a possible 6 was terrific, especially playing such a good game in an overtime losing cause Friday night at London and then taking care of business with back to back home wins over Oshawa and Windsor, who are struggling at the moment.
But equally as significant, if not more significant, were a couple of off ice activities.
In reverse chronological order, the Attack were presented with their Championship rings Sunday afternoon and while the rings are highly meaningful, so too were the sentiments of the Attack General Manager.
Dale DeGray, who will never be confused with Dale Carnegie when it comes to public speaking, offered in a brief speech that the very foundation for a championship team and organization had been in place for many years in Owen Sound and the rings represent a verification that Owen Sound is, and has been for a long period of time, a quality organization, operated by quality people at every level.
And to that point, I offer the pre-game ceremony Saturday night to honor Jack McGregor, the Attack/Plater/Lacrosse scorekeeper for decades.
The reaction by the crowd from the beginning of the ceremony, to the gesture by the refs and linemen at its completion, speaks volumes about Jack McGregor and the lengthy list of people who make Attack hockey and sports in this area so vibrant.
I’m Fred Wallace
