Softball Canada announced their annual award winners this week, and among those to be honored next month in Halifax is Austin Brown of Tara.
Brown, who primarily plays infield, is the Male recipient of the Ethel Boyce Memorial Award, which is presented to those who have exhibited leadership and skills in softball.
A member of the Owen Sound Selects fastball program, Brown was added by the Wiarton Red Devils for the Canadian Midget Championship Tournament in Fredericton, New Brunswick back in August
In Fredericton, Brown had a tremendous tournament, and was an integral part of Wiarton’s march to the Canadian title.
Sure, we could go off an tangent here regarding the MVP award which he was a co-winner of, but the important facts are that Wiarton won the Canadian Midget Championship, and Brown’s efforts were rewarded both then and again now.
As the recipient of the Ethel Boyce Memorial Award, Austin Brown will receive $1,000 which is designed to either defray the cost of education and/or playing softball.
Brown is a first year Business Administration student at Conestoga College in Kitchener, and whether he puts the award towards academics or fastball, it’s an extremely valuable award he’s garnered.
