Everywhere you look this weekend, and spilling into next week, things are happening on the local sports front.
Most significantly in the short term, the Ontario Lacrosse Senior Lacrosse Championship opens with the Owen Sound Quantum Properties NorthStars facing the St Catharines Saints in a best of 7 final.
The Woodies have history and tradition as perennial contenders, if not champions, at this level, whereas St Catharines, as a new entry this season, has found playoff momentum.
Elsewhere, the 28th annual Chantry Chinook Classic presented by our sister station, 98 The Beach in Port Elgin, concludes Sunday at noon, followed by the closing ceremonies at the Tiverton Community Centre at 1:30 pm Sunday.
In fastball, the Wiarton Red Devils depart this weekend for the Canadian Midget Fastball Championship Tournament which begins Monday at Fredericton, New Brunswick.
The Red Devils earned their berth by winning the Ontario Elimination title and are looking to climax a big season with a title this week.
Wiarton faces B.C. & Napanee in their opening games Monday.
Also starting Monday, in Napanee, is the Canadian Junior Fastball Championship Tournament.
The Owen Sound Brick Brothers Volkswagen Selects are in the field and meet PEI in their opening game.
And as always, there’s lots of racing this weekend, with Sauble Speedway looking ahead to Wednesday as well with a ” dash for Cash ” featuring Kenny Wallace.
