The stage is set for the richest event in local sports; the annual Dream of Glory Final at Hanover Raceway.
You can argue whether or not the Dream of Glory is the best sporting event in Grey County, but to me, there’s no doubt it is the richest, with a $ 100,000 purse, half of which goes to the winning horse.
The 8 horses in the final qualified last Saturday in 4 elimination races at Hanover where the top 2 finishers in each elimination gained a berth in the final this Saturday night.
Is there a favorite for Saturday’s Dream of Glory ?
I think so.
” Traverse Seelster ” driven by Hall of Famer Doug Brown was impressive and has a winning history at Hanover as it claimed the Balanced Image Championship last summer.
But again, this is horse racing, where anything can happen and sometimes you need to expect the unexpected.
Everyone knows I know very little about harness racing, but I’m not prepared to rule out ” Count Strike ” in the # 2 hole, nor ” High Stakes Banker ” who won last week and will have regular driver Terry Kerr back for Saturday’s Dream of Glory Final.
There’s racing tonight at Hanover Raceway with a 7:20 post, but I think it’s fair to say, everyone connected to the track is looking just a little bit further ahead with the 10th annual Dream of Glory Final Saturday night.
I’m Fred Wallace
