I know this is dated, but we’re in a busy stretch and some things get lost in the shuffle.
But I did want to congratulate the Port Elgin Rotary Club, Saugeen Golf Club and the organizers of the 16th annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament.
Under gorgeous conditions for golf this year, close to 50 ” celebrities ” ( okay, I’m using that term loosely ) fronted foursomes who hacked & whacked their way around the 27 holes at Saugeen, all the while generating funds for a variety of causes.
Len Metcalfe conducted the auction at dinner and the big ticket was a Brett MacLean Phoenix Coyotes jersey that generated a healthy 4 digits.
Brett scored twice in 13 games for Phoenix last year and I hesitate to think how much money the jersey could be worth going forward.
Meanwhile, for the first time I can remember, an all-women’s entry took top place in one of the tournament flights.
Of course, their celebrity was Brianna Cooper of Kincardine who was the Ontario Women’s Match Play Champion this year.
The celebrities included business big-wigs, actors and athletes, but without question, the biggest name at the Jeff Preston Golf Tournament is Jeff Preston’s.
Through Jeff’s tournament, more than a million dollars has been generated for a variety of causes including $ 25,000 this year allotted to the University of Western Ontario for Muscular Dystrophy Research and to Jesse’s Journey.
We look forward to the 17th annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament next July.
I’m Fred Wallace
