I fully understand we’re not the biggest region in Ontario, in Canada or in the World.
But then again, that what’s so appealing in many regards about where we live.
What stands out, in sports, and in day to day life itself, is when a small city like Owen Sound, or any of the many smaller communities in the broadcast region, has a significant event, it often takes on a larger than normal appeal.
For example, there are 2 big fastball tournaments Saturday & Sunday.
One at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound.
The other, primarily, takes place at Bluewater Park in Wiarton.
We’ll talk about the ISC Eastern Canada Championship & the OASA Midget Championships later this week.
Of course the biggest sporting event in the broadcast region, certainly from a financial standpoint, is the annual Dream of Glory Final at Hanover Raceway.
The $ 100,000 Dream of Glory Final is July 30th this year.
But to get to the Dream of Glory, you’ve got to qualify for the Dream of Glory and the only way to do that is to win or place well in the eliminations that are set for Saturday night at Hanover Raceway.
Did I mention there’s racing tonight at Hanover with a 7:20 pm post time ?
Tonight’s card isn’t the biggest of the year, but it’s nicely sandwiched into a variety of big activities in the next week or so in the region.
I’m Fred Wallace
