I fail to see the issue here….
Various provinces, including Ontario & Quebec, are getting tougher with legislation aimed at the flourishing, and financially lucrative, resale of tickets to sports and entertainment events.
The gist of the legislation is to essentially make it illegal to sell tickets to a game or show at a higher price than that authorized by the original seller.
The modifications to the consumer protection laws is to prevent gouging on tickets, plus violators of the policy would be fined.
We’re all aware that scalpers, live or on the Internet, resell tickets at multiple times the original price. It’s the third oldest profession in the World.
Isn’t this is about supply and demand, the most basic of business principles ?
Do you want to see the game, the show, the concert ?
How much are you willing to pay in order to do so ?
If the price is too high, you don’t pay it.
I fail to see how the re-sale of tickets is any different than the resale of vehicles, or real estate or other property.
A price gets set, maybe you meet it, maybe you walk away.
I think the governments here are alarmed by the re-sellers because the re-sellers are gouging the public worse than the government & likely operating more efficiently than the politicians could ever hope for.
