Ray Stevens had that classic song circa 1974, ” The Streak “.
I’ve been humming it for the last few days based on a couple of sports streaks that were significant.
The Golden State Warriors started the year with 24 consecutive victories before they were halted at………..Milwaukee (?) By the Bucks (?).
Naturally I checked, and the NBA record for most consecutive wins is 33 by the LA Lakers in 1971-72.
I know the Lakers won’t win 33 straight this year, and I wonder if any team will ever match or break that record streak.
In hockey, it’s Patrick Kane’s point streak that is making news.
Tonight, Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks host the Colorado Avalanche as he tries to extend the streak to 27 games.
The NHL record was set in 1983-84 by Wayne Gretzky; 51 games.
So Patrick Kane is more than half way there, but just barely, and logic tells me he won’t make 51 straight and like the LA Lakers win streak of the 70’s, I wonder if anybody ever will.
Joe DiMaggio and the 56 game hit streak in Major League Baseball…..we’ll talk about that another time because right now, like Frank ” The Tank “…..
