In late February, one of the more exciting events in our region was the CWOSSA Curling Championships.
A two day affair for both Boys & Girls rinks was staged utilizing both the Markdale Curling Club and the Blue Water Curling Club in Owen Sound
Don Bartley of the OSCVI was the CWOSSA Coordinator and we got talking about the event and the possibility of hosting an even bigger event, the OFSAA Curling Championships out of Owen Sound.
Keep in mind that OFSAA is a huge animal, generally taking in 16 districts across Ontario multiplied by two when the event has both Girls & Boys competition.
My question was could Owen Sound, with both the Blue Water & Grey Granite venues, stage a successful OFSAA Curling Championships
Don’s answer was yes. And no.
In his assessment you would need four curling clubs, not 2, so the number of venues would have to be doubled.
However, with several rinks in close proximity to the city; Tara, Allenford, Meaford, & Southampton, it’s conceivable that the entire event could be conducted within a 30 minute radius by vehicle.
OFSAA Curling in Owen Sound, or in Grey County.
It’s doable. But when ?
