The Owen Sound Attack are back in action tonight when they host the Plymouth Whalers on the final Mercury’s night of the regular season at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center.
In terms of the standings, the result tonight has greater significance for Plymouth than it does for the Attack.
The Whalers are currently 6th in the OHL Western Conference with 3 games to play.
They have an outside shot at getting to 4th, and by the same token, they could also be caught from behind, so they need the points.
For Owen Sound, regardless of what happens tonight or this week, they’ll be the Midwest Division and Western Conference Champions, which is a huge accomplishment for the organization.
And while the Attack can go no higher, nor be caught in the regular season, the game tonight and the games this week, do carry meaning.
Playing a team desperate to win, like Plymouth this evening, is a terrific challenge and could simulate the feeling of putting an opponent on the brink of elimination
Then Friday at Guelph & Saturday at home to London, the Attack will be in against one of their most likely first round playoff opponents.
So while the points at hand aren’t crucial for the Attack, the matchups tonight, Friday & Saturday certainly are.
Game time tonight for the Attack & Whalers is 7 pm
