It’s been awhile since I’ve been to a WOAA Senior Hockey game.
It’s not that I don’t want to see one, it’s just timing, by and large, that prevents it.
But if I could go to a game, I can’t think of a better one to attend than the one in Walkerton tomorrow night when the Capitals host the Saugeen Shores Winterhawks
From a competitive standpoint, Walkerton needs the upset victory over the Winterhawks to maintain any hope of qualifying for the playoffs
But far more significant is the community initiative the Capitals are staging whereby all proceeds from the night tomorrow will be directed to 10 year old Jasmine Rutledge who was diagnosed last summer with childhood leukemia.
As part of the proceedings, all fans are encouraged to wear Orange in one form or another to the game, as orange is the color that is associated with the fight against leukemia.
Walkerton President Charlie Cleland says the battle Jasmine is engaged in truly puts hockey into perspective and from that end, he hopes the Capitals and Winterhawks can generate $ 3,000 for Jasmine and the Rutledge Family.
Game time tomorrow night is 6:30 in Walkerton.
Admission is by donation to the Rutledge Family and something tells me they may be able to bypass the fundraising target in a big way.
I’m Fred Wallace
