As Ontario Hockey League trade deadlines go, this one was filled with opposites and options.
Take the Windsor Spitfires.
At one point, General Manager Warren Rychel proclaimed he would be dealing future National Junior Team members Ryan Ellis and Zack Kassian, but admitted he expected a payoff that would rank with what Oshawa got for peddling John Tavares & Michael Del Zotto two seasons ago.
As it turns out, Windsor not only kept the marquee players, but added some depth in an attempt to win the OHL title for a third consecutive year.
Among the additions was Taylor Carnevale, who was reportedly going to London, then Saginaw, then Kitchener, then London again, Guelph and finally landed in Windsor.
Strange.
Almost as strange as the parents of Joe Rogalski of Sarnia putting the kibosh on a deal with the Owen Sound Attack.
In this day and age, Ontario Hockey League General Managers have to trade parents, and here in Owen Sound it appears we’ve dealt 3 sets of parents and an uncle in one season.
Finally, Jay Gilbert arrives in Attackland and joins a defence deep in numbers, one that has contributed to a first place standing, albeit technically tied with Kitchener, and with 2 months to go, we’ll see whether the various trades made in the OHL push teams forward, or go with the TREND and produce the opposite.
