The number of Owen Sound Attack players invited to the National Junior Team’s Selection Camp has risen to 3, which in these parts is unheard of.
Jamie Storr, Adam Mair and Wayne Simmonds are the only 3 players in more than 20 years of Owen Sound OHL hockey to have been invited, and made, Canada’s National Junior Team.
Yesterday with the confirmation that Attack defender Jesse Blacker has been added to the Selection Camp, the number of Owen Sounders competing for a spot on the Canadian Junior team is now at 3.
Captain Garrett Wilson and sniper Joey Hishon were invited a week ago when the Selection Camp roster was released.
Blacker, who was under heavy consideration for a spot all along, as illustrated by his participation in both Super Series games, was initially bypassed.
However, a couple of things took place in a short span.
One, the door opened based on injury and other potential concerns.
And two, Blacker, rather than be downcast by the initial exclusion, went out and dominated puck possession at times over his next 4 games, scoring once and adding 6 assists.
So, Owen Sound has had 3 players play for Canada’s National Junior team, and by Sunday, 3 more players with Owen Sound connections get a shot to add their names to the Canadian roster at the Selection Camp
