Just a quick word today about the Kingston Frontenacs of the OHL and their coach Doug Gilmour.
The Frontenacs, thanks to Skate Canada and other factors, have been out of their building for a lengthy period of time.
How’s this for a schedule ?
A week ago Sunday Kingston was at Sault Ste Marie, then shifted to Sudbury for a game a week ago.
The Frontenacs won both games.
They kinda came home for a day or so, then hit the road for a game Friday at St Mike’s; a loss.
They spent Friday night in Mississauga, then rolled into Owen Sound for a Saturday night win over the Attack in a shootout.
Following the game, Kingston stayed at the Inn on the Bay and then went from Owen Sound to Ottawa for a game Monday MORNING in the Nation’s Capital
They gave up 2 goals against in the first 3 minutes, but rallied to beat the 67’s 4-2.
Thursday, Kingston has ANOTHER road game when they visit Peterborough, before they finally come home this Friday for a game with Barrie.
That’s a road trip.
In the middle of their trip, I was highly impressed with Frontenacs coach and former NHL star Doug Gilmour.
Perhaps because the Fronts were leading after 2 period in Owen Sound, or maybe because he knew what was coming, Gilmour came towards the Kingston bench with about 6 minutes left in the 2nd intermission.
He almost made it to the bench……
A youngster stopped him and asked for an autograph, then his buddy got one, and before long, they flocked to the side of the Kingston bench were Gilmour graciously signed everything he could before the game resumed.
A lot of guys in that position wouldn’t have stopped, let alone signed & signed before going behind the bench.
And today I can’t think what’s more impressive; the Frontenacs success on their never ending road swing through Ontario, or Doug Gilmour’s graciousness in Owen Sound.
I’m Fred Wallace
