It’s the time of the year when the publishing industry pumps out a series of hockey books to coincide with the early going of the season and get a running start on the Christmas season.
Among the books to land at Bayshore Broadcasting is the Sports Illustrated piece, ‘ The Hockey Book ‘ with the Introduction written by SI’s Hockey Writer Michael Farber plus, from Hockey Night in Canada, the ‘ Best of the Best ” written by Scott Morrison.
As you might expect, ‘ The Hockey Book ‘ from Sports Illustrated has amazing and timeless pictures.
In an age of digital photography and video images, it’s almost refreshing to see the stories told by a tremendous selection of still photographs.
‘ The Best of the Best ” also has great photography, but it’s more of a rankings book and will stoke the fires of debate among hockey fans even further.
Breaking the NHL into pre & post expansion eras, the book offers their historical ranking of the best players at each position.
Howe or Richard, Gretzky or Lemieux, Brodeur or Roy…..
You may agree, or disagree as I do with Denis Potvin being rated behind Ray Bourque among Modern Era defenders, but the point is you’ll think & remember and enjoy.
Hockey season with Christmas on the horizon, a great time for fans on a variety of levels.
I’m Fred Wallace
