The 2014 World Series begins tonight at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
But it may as well be the World Series of Poker since we’re talking about ” Wild Cards ” & ” Aces ” so much these days.
The Wild Cards are the teams; the Royals & the San Francisco Giants, meeting for the just the second ” all-Wild Card ” Final in baseball history
The previous Wild Card vs Wild Card final, also involved the Giants, who lost the 2002 World Series to the AL Wild Card Angels.
Meanwhile the Aces naturally would be the Game 1 starting pitchers tonight; Madison Bumgarner for the Giants & James Shields for KC.
By virtue of the American League winning the All Star Game at Minnesota this year, the Royals have home field advantage for the series
Furthermore, in head to head play; the Royals swept a 3 game series with the Giants in Kansas City back in August winning 4-2, 5-0 & 7-4.
All of which……… means nothing once the first pitch is thrown.
After a 162 game season, 2 Wild Card games 4 best of 5 divisional series, 2 best of 7 League Finals, we’re down to 2 surviving teams, and just like in head to head poker, all previous hands are irrelevant once the first deal, or the first pitch goes tonight in Kansas City.
I say Giants in 6.
I’m Fred Wallace
