The Owen Sound Attack & Niagara Ice Dogs have essentially swapped rosters in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Attack and Ice Dogs have exchanged 6 players and 5 draft picks in 3 deals over 2 months as they re-jig their rosters.
There were also two fathers and an uncle in the packages, but that’s for another day.
The most recent deal saw the Attack acquire forward Andrew Fritsch from the Ice Dogs in time for their game tomorrow night at London.
In return the Ice Dogs got overage forward Jason Wilson.
Truthfully, I’m surprised Wilson is back in Junior.
Looking at guys who play pro, Wilson has a lot of the attributes NHL teams covet.
He’s got decent playing & scoring instincts, plus what appeals to me is that Wilson is capable of battling the league’s toughest players, and if they’re not interested, then he changes gears & scares the tar out of the other team’s best player. Ask Zach Torquato. Or Jordan Szwarz.
Last season, Wilson was out with an injury one night while the Attack were at Sarnia.
Dave Morrison, the Director of Amateur Scouting for the Leafs, approached me and asked about Wilson, simply because some bozo on the Internet wrote that he was ” suspended ” for violating team rules, which was utterly false…..
When I explained to Morrison that Wilson was definitely hurt, Morrison told me that every Leaf scout who’d seen Wilson last season had turned in a positive report on Wilson’s performance.
So you can understand why I’m surprised he’s still in Junior and available for the Attack to deal in the never ending sequence of trades with Niagara.
I’m Fred Wallace
