Major League Baseball has enjoyed a decent September with 3 pretty good divisional races
The American League East games last week at Tampa Bay between the Rays & the Yankees had tremendous thrills.
Plus the National League East with Philadelphia & Atlanta clawing for first was interesting and the West derby with the Padres, Giants & Rockies was also compelling.
Into the climax of the 2010 season, the Major League schedule for 2011 was released.
The 2011 season opens on a Thursday next year, March 31st with 5 openers.
The Blue Jays opener is the following day on April Fool’s when they host the Minnesota Twins.
The mid-week start in late March is designed to have the World Series completed in October.
If the 2010 World Series goes to Game 7, it would be played on November 4th.
That’s far too late.
On November 4th, the World Series is up against the opening week of the NBA, the height of football on both sides of the border plus the NHL.
Back it into October, and you get far more of the spotlight.
Furthermore, start the playoff & World Series games earlier, and you should also increase your fan base & interest.
But I guess it’s a step at a time.
An earlier start to the season in 2011, and we’ll wait for earlier starting times during the climax of the season in the future.
I’m Fred Wallace
