I was sitting in the Satellite Gymnastics Club in June and thought, ‘ what a remarkable use of space they’ve arranged here. ‘
There’s no wasted space at the Satellite Club where gymnastics can swing, spring, tumble and vault freely in their designated spaces.
Then I remembered the opening of Dancemakers Gymnastics, less than a mile away and I thought how lucky for the city to have not one, but TWO gymnastics facilities.
Then I got thinking that behind SportMakers, Dancemakers and the Gymnastics Club is the Kiwanis Soccer Complex, and I thought how lucky for the city to have that many pitches to stage games at every level.
From the soccer complex, you can see the light standards at Duncan McLellan Park, home to three levels of Selects Fastball, plus an active SloPitch Association.
Of course, less than 2 kilometres away from the Soccer Complex is the multifunctional Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center, which among other events houses 2 junior hockey teams, two competitive lacrosse teams, plus the minor associations for both sports.
And one day soon at Victoria Park, we’ll have another complex, the Regional Rec Center which will accommodate swimmers, skaters, walkers and much more.
In the community that you grew up in, did it have 2 Gymnastic Facilities, a dozen soccer pitches, 3 ice surfaces, 3 ball diamonds & a new pool ?
Midland didn’t.
And Owen Sound, which is barely bigger than my hometown was, is quite fortunate, for a variety of reasons, to have such a rich and diverse choice of venues and facilities and opportunities
