I’ve said many times about Owen Sound; it’s a small city, but one with very big aspirations.
That applies in so many facets of the community, including sports.
I can’t imagine Owen Sound hosting more sporting events, again in a relatively small city compared to our provincial counterparts.
Furthermore, the teams and performers that come out of Owen Sound make you wonder if smaller isn’t better.
The most recent example is the Aquatic Club.
Five swimmers from the Owen Sound club managed to meet the qualifying standard for the Canadian Age Group Championships and earned a berth at the National Meet in Winnipeg.
Due to work commitments, only 3 of the 5; Brett Coburn, Justin Salerne & Jake See will compete in individual races at Winnipeg, and a fourth swimmer, Austin Hatcher will join them for the relay events.
Aquatic Club coach Ryan Hood states having 5 swimmers qualify for the Nationals is a tremendous accomplishment and he’s certain that Owen Sound will also be the smallest club and community to have a relay team entered.
Small city, small club, very big performances & aspirations.
I’m Fred Wallace
