The Junior B Lacrosse season has ended for the Owen Sound Bluewater ProTeam NorthStars, eliminated last week in the 5th and deciding game of their playoff series at Windsor in overtime.
The game, seemingly typified a season in which the NorthStars were good, but just not good enough.
At one point during the regular season, Owen Sound made a concerted bid for first place in the ever tough MidWest Division.
A well earned 7-4 win at home against eventual division champ Elora on May 20th gave the impression that Owen Sound was capable of taking the MidWest.
But that sweet victory was followed by a sour 6 game winless skid which included puzzling losses to a pair of non-playoff teams.
The NorthStars did finish with a flurry, winning their last 3 games in the regular season, including a clutch 8-6 victory at Orangeville to claim 6th place in the Western Conference.
But again, after working hard to gain a 2-1 advantage against Windsor in the playoffs, Owen Sound laid an egg at home in Game 4 of the series and, try as they might, they never quite got it back, and were eliminated by the Clippers in overtime in the deciding game.
So Windsor, and not Owen Sound, advances to the next round of the playoffs, leaving the NorthStars to consider whether they were good enough, or simply just close enough, to be considered a final 4 member in the Western Conference.
