Among the events we’ll be watching today and through the weekend is the annual Ontario Amateur Softball Association Junior Elimination Tournament at Cobourg.
The Owen Sound Brick Brothers Volkswagen Selects are among the 15 teams competing at the event.
The Selects won’t play their first game until tomorrow morning when they meet the winner of tonight’s game between Brantford & Tavistock.
Owen Sound is a contender, and in some circles the favorite to take the 2010 Junior Tournament with a lineup that is virtually unchanged from last year.
The eventual Tournament Champion, along with the runners up, will earn a spot at the National Junior Fastball Championships, which after two years at Duncan McLellan Park in Owen Sound, will be hosted this year at St Croix, Nova Scotia.
In the short term, the Ontario Tournament is obviously big for Brick Brothers who want to win a spot at St Croix.
Plus, in the long term it carries added significance as the 2011 Provincial Junior Tourney will be in Owen Sound next Canada Day Weekend,
Plus, the Junior Selects program represents a significant middle ground in Owen Sound Fastball in the development of teams and players from Midget through Senior.
