Here we go !!
I’m not talking about the UFC slogan, or the new catchphrase for Bud Light, I’m talking about the annual Harry Kazarian Memorial Minor Lacrosse Tournament.
Watch the arteries into Owen Sound, Meaford, Shallow Lake and Port Elgin over the next two days and understand the excess traffic quite likely is driven by an enduring and long lasting minor sports event.
More than 40 teams in a variety of age groups will once again descend on 5 venues in our region and battle it out for the right to advance to Championship Sunday.
Championship Sunday is conducted at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center in Owen Sound and this year, the action kicks off at 8 am and runs all day Sunday.
Trust me, when I tell you this tournament carries great meaning on many levels.
Watch a team, local or from far away, celebrate at the end of a Championship Game if they’re successful.
Hopefully, there will be Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse teams in their respective finals. It always makes the game that much more significant.
And maybe most of all, it honours the memory of a tremendous athlete of yesteryear and reminds us always how special Canada’s National Summer Sport is in the city of Owen Sound.
See you at the Kazy.
I’m Fred Wallace
