Today we announce the results of our highly unscientific tabulation of which Ontario Hockey League franchise has the most graduates playing in the National Hockey League.
The winner is the London Knights with 16
The Knights have sent Carlson, Kane, Perry, Erskine, Kelly, Prust, Kostitsyn, Bolland, Quincey, Mason, Methot, Nash, Kostopoulos, Barch, Gagner & Wideman to the NHL.
Some Knights fans may also want credit for Tavares, Del Zotto, Shremp & Girardi, but I’ve awarded their development points to their original OHL teams.
How about 2nd place….the Owen Sound Attack/Platers, with 15.
In the case of Owen Sound, the 15 grads in the Big Time are; Ryan, Giordano, Maltby, Peckham. Simmonds, Richardson, Brunette, Ward, Mair, Sekera, Avery, Johnson, Primeau, Walker and Bailey.
If Windsor wants to claim Joshua Bailey who spent half his OHL days here and the other half with the Spitfires, I’ll accept that.
But the point is 15 grads playing in the best league in the world, a league that has, according to my project 720 positions available is something to be proud of.
Actually, the MidWest Division of the Attack, the Knights, Kitchener, Erie and Guelph, by my unscientific tabulation account for 8 per cent of all NHL’ers.
By the way, the lowest OHL score in terms of grads playing in the NHL as of mid March; the Barrie Colts with 3- Skoula, Little & Crombeen.
I assigned Richard Clune to Sarnia and Dan Girardi to Guelph.
The full results of my little project are posted today at under ” Latest Sports Stories “
