Into November and the local curling season commences with the launch of the Brokerlink Insurance Grey Bruce Major Curling League
The season opens tomorrow night at the Hanover Curling Club at 9 pm with 4 games scheduled.
The opening night matches are;
Mike Hamer, Port Elgin vs Don Bartley, Absalute Automotive/Tara
Joey Rettinger, Tara vs Brett McAllister, West Grey Premium Beef, Chesley
Wade Walsh, Blue Water, vs Al Hutchinson, Ram Promotion/Hanover
& Shawn Kaufman, Walkerton, vs Scott Davidson, Tara
There’s a 9th entry in the league this year; Steve Gregg, Merit Insurance/Paisley, and thus every week, one team gets a bye.
With the 9 team loop, the entries will play a true round robin of 8 matches, head-to-head against one another, primarily on Wednesday nights between now and January 9th.
Should weather or other factors impact a scheduled game there will be a make-up date set for Sunday January 13th
Two months from now, the standings will be finalized and one of the rinks will be eliminated, leaving 8 rinks to compete in a playoff round that begins January 16th at Port Elgin and climaxes Sunday February 10th in Chesley with the Semifinals and Championship contest.
The Brokerlink Grey-Bruce League has a lengthy history with a remarkable roster of almost rotating champions.
We’ll see who’s # 1 come mid February at Chesley.
