Okay, this might be a bit of a stretch, but it did happen once before in the summer of 2003.
Remember how the Presidents Cup Canadian Senior Lacrosse Championship was at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community center in August of 2003 and then, just a couple of days later the Canadian Senior Men’s Fastball Championship commenced at Duncan McLellan Park ?
Well, I’m here to tell you, we could be experiencing deja vu.
From a lacrosse standpoint, the 2011 President’s Cup is due to be hosted in Ontario.
The Owen Sound van Dolder Home Team Woodsmen hosted in 2003 and again in 2007.
The Woodsmen run this Championship event as well, probably better, than any other organization in the country
And using the 4 year margin of math, Owen Sound would be in line again in 2011.
As far as OLA Senior Commissioner Sharon McKechnie knows, the Woodsmen will bid, but this time they may be opposed by rival Ontario bids from Peterborough and potentially one from the new entry at Huntsville.
Meanwhile as you know, Softball Canada denied the Owen Sound Volkswagen Selects the 2011 Canadian Junior Fastball Championship and then one breath later encouraged them to bid for the 2011 Canadian Men’s Tournament.
I know it’s a stretch, but August of 2011 could feel an awful lot like August of 2003.
I’m Fred Wallace
