I really, really, really wanted to talk today about the Sunday Morning Hockey League Players Association trip to Chicago & Detroit over the weekend.
And I will…..just not today.
Instead, as fate would have it, there is a far more significant sporting event with greater athletics being displayed this afternoon in Port Elgin.
The CWOSSA Football Championship is being contested at Saugeen District Secondary School in Port Elgin, as the Bluewater Champion Royals host John F. Ross of Guelph.
In Bluewater, the Royals have been the cream of the crop for most of the decade.
Yes, every now and then, a rival Bluewater school, highly motivated by the challenge, rises to the occasion and gives SDSS a good match; but almost invariably, it’s the Royalswho win.
You can say the same about other Bluewater schools in other Bluewater Sports, but when it comes to football, that’s been the Royals domain.
Outside of Bluewater, that’s an entirely different challenge, and this afternoon Saugeen District will try and attain the standing of CWOSSA Champion and earn the right to advance to the Western Bowl semifinals.
Game time today is 2 pm at Saugeen District.
I’m Fred Wallace
