The third and final Owen Sound Minor Hockey Group Tournament of the year was staged over the weekend with the Championship Games in the Regional Silver Stick staged at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore.
The Owen Sound BDO Dunwoody Attack made it to the Minor Atom Final but were defeated by the Centre Wellington Fusion 4-2.
Centre Wellington had a nice team with a lot of balance as several players had multiple points on the game.
Connor Roberts had both goals for BDO Dunwoody who tried to erase a 4 goal deficit but simply ran out of time.
The other two finals featured some outstanding performances by young players.
In the Minor Peewee Final, netminder Jacob Flanagan of the Bradford Bulldogs stopped everything the Nepean Raiders threw at him, posting a 1-0 shutout victory.
And in the Minor Bantam Final, I was highly impressed with Klye Neto of the Innisfil Winterhawks.
Neto scored both goals as Innisfil shaded the Brampton Battalion 2-1, but he was just as noticeable when he didn’t have the puck for his complete all round game.
There are at least two more significant tournaments apparently on the Minor Hockey horizon in the city.
The OHF Peewee tournament is set for April and word is an SCTA Tournament will also be in the city this spring.
I’m Fred Wallace
