It’s a big weekend for sports with the NHL Draft, the Junior B lacrosse playoffs, auto and harness racing at every track plus significant entertainment events at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore & at the Wiarton Airport.
And let’s not overlook Mount Forest where tonight Minor Hockey Presents Border City Wrestling at the Mount Forest & District Sports Complex.
Based out of the Windsor region, Border City’s troupe comes to Mount Forest with ” Hacksaw ” Jim Duggan, ” Highlander ” Robbie MacAllister & ” TNA Knockout ” Taylor Wilde ” in tow.
I spoke with Robbie MacAllister last week, I wondered if the day would ever return, pre WWE, where North America had a series of independent territories rather than one monster corporation based out of Connecticutt dominating the industry.
MacAllister says he’d like to see it, but it’s unlikely to happen soon.
If you’re my age, you remember flipping the channel in the 70’s and being able to watch cards out of Quebec, Maple Leaf Gardens, the Arena in Winnipeg, Stampede Wrestling in Calgary & Vancouver’s All Star show.
Each territory had it’s butt kicking villain from the Vachons to the Sheik, to the Stomper to Gene Kiniski & each territory had impressive lineups of good guys to root for from Don Leo Jonathon to Whipper Watson to Dan Kroffat.
And every summer, a cast of those villains and bad guys would come to the Midland Arena and be the topic of discussion, certainly amongst the bike riding set.
So tonight, the Border City crew comes to Mount Forest in what should be fun and a great fundraiser
Bell time is 7:30 pm
I’m Fred Wallace
