I spoke with skip Deni Clark of the West Hill Lady Raiders curling squad last week.
Once she got by the nervousness and the giggles, Clark was a marvlous interview, discussing at length the upcoming OFSAA Curling Championships at Grimsby
And nerves are something that have been exposed in abundance by Clark and her rinkmates this season in high school play.
In a bit of a rarity, the Lady Raiders won the ” B ” side, not the ” A “, at the Bluewater playdown, yet once they hit the CWOSSA playdowns at Brantford their game came together.
In the Championship match against Galt, Clark admitted her heart was thumping and she sheepishly confirmed she was grateful she didn’t have to make a meaningful shot at the end, given a 7-4 cushion in the final.
The West Hill rink includes Clark’s sister, Kelsey, plus Kaitlyn Knight & Hillary Green and the belief is we’ll be hearing about three quarters of this rink again next year.
Only Kelsey Clark will be graduating from West Hill & her sister states their goal is to win OFSAA this year for the family.
Deni Clark, again giggling, notes she and Knight & Green will all be back at West Hill next year for their ” victory lap ” and they hope another highly successful curling season.
I’m Fred Wallace
