Last week, the defending Canadian Senior Lacrosse Champion Owen Sound van Dolder Home Team Woodsmen released their regular season schedule for 2009.
When last seen, the Woodsmen were hoisting the President’s Cup in Edmonton, winning the National title for the first time ever.
The Woodsmen entity will be entering their 9th year, most of which have been above average to tremendous seasons.
The fact that Owen Sound has just one President’s Cup since emerging this century, tells you how difficult winning the big one is, even for a very successful franchise.
Defending that championship may also be a tough feat, especially when you look at their schedule.
Owen Sound will launch the 2009 O.L.A. season at home against Norwood on Saturday May 2nd at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore.
Then, how about this ?
The following weekend, on Mother’s Day weekend, the Woodsmen will play three times in 3 nights.
Home to Six Nations on the Friday, off to Norwood the next night, and then back home for the Sunday night affair against Ajax.
Three in 3 is tough in any sport, lacrosse though might be the toughest.
But the games are scheduled, May 2nd through July 19th and the Owen Sound van Dolder Home Team Woodsmen are set to do what nobody has done since the Fergus Thistles in 1987 & 88, win the President’s Cup in back to back seasons.
