Later this week, the two Owen Sound hockey venues; the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center & the Coliseum, will be very active.
The S.C.T.A. ” AAA ” Midget League Championship tournament will be staged Friday through Sunday in the city.
There will be 10 teams, including the host club, the Grey Bruce Douglas Cleaners Highlanders competing.
This event represents the first time the Highlanders organization has ever been the host for a year end championship.
The ten clubs will be divided into two pools of 5 teams based on their regular season standings.
The first & second place teams will be in a Pool with the 8th, 9th & 10 place finishers in the regular season.
The remaining five clubs, those who finished third through 7th will be in the other pool.
Every club will play 4 games in a round robin format within their pool, two games each at the Coliseum & J.D. McArthur Arena over Friday & Saturday.
On Sunday at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Center, the first place team in Pool A will meet the second place finisher in Pool B, while the first place finisher in Pool B takes on the second place finisher in Pool A.
Those two semifinal winners will then gain the right to represent the SCTA at the O.M.H.A. Championship tournament later this year at Peterborough.
By my count, that’s 22 ” AAA ” Midget Hockey games here in Owen Sound Friday, Saturday & Sunday, which presents a great opportunity on a number of levels for the participants and a unique opportunity for the local hockey fan.
